Friction is a force that opposes motion between two surfaces sticking or touching together. It stops an object from sliding against a surface or another object by acting in the opposite direction of the sliding movement. Take for an example, if a car needs to stop at a stop sign, it slows down because of the friction between the brakes and the wheels.

Learning Objectives

                In this course , you are going to classify and describe useful and harmful materials used at home. The four useful materials at home are metals, plastics, wood and textiles.

                  Harmful materials include corrosive, flammable, explosive, poisonous and reactive materials. Since you are going to classify useful and harmful materials, you are going to prepare materials readily available at home and in the community. You can ask your parents, guardians, brothers or sisters or facilitators to guide you through this course.

In your previous module, you learned about nutritional needs and food pyramid for adolescents. The Food Pyramid is designed to make healthy eating easier. Healthy eating is about getting the correct amount of nutrients – protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Hence, if you cannot meet these required nutrients, then malnutrition occurs.

In this module, you will be provided with varied yet selected activities about Characteristics, Signs, and Symptoms of Malnutrition and Micronutrient Deficiencies for you to accomplish at your own pace. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource to draw out your understanding about the topic.

7 - Carpentry - Exploratory

Our bodies are like complex machines and depend on many different body systems in order to function properly. In this module, you will explore each important aspect of two key body systems: the respiratory and circulatory systems.  Beginning with the respiratory system, you will understand the complex parts involved in the process of breathing, from our major air-intake passageway, the nose, to the smallest spaces of the lungs, called alveoli, where a vital exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs. It is here that the respiratory and circulatory systems meet. In this section of the module, you will learn about the anatomy of the heart and how it works, the structure and function of various blood vessels, the cellular components of blood and their purposes, as well as what blood pressure is and what it reveals. As this concludes, you will examine the link between these two amazing body systems, and understand the importance of maintaining them through exercise and a healthy diet.

The subject covers various contemporary arts practices of the region where the school is located. It aims to provide students with an appreciation of a broad range of styles in the various disciplines with consideration on their elements and principles, and engage them to an integrative approach in studying arts. Through this subject, students will broaden and acquire the necessary creative tools that open opportunities in pursuing their individual career goals and aspirations.
