Global trends have been anchored to socio-cultural, economic and political dimensions with which increasingly given attention nowadays. Apparently, a lot of trends are being practiced by some however, they are not aware of it.

For the past years, you usually know set of students in your class and who among them can you get along with, set of your teachers with their expectations, set of rules in school to follow, and perhaps today you had received a set of books to read and help you as you start your junior high school life. In this lesson you will be learning more concepts on sets.

When you scan, you only look for specific information without reading everything. Scanning allows you to find details and locate facts by focusing on the information that you only need to find. It uses keywords to target particular facts or data. Scanning is also useful when reading infographics. You also employ scanning when you only want to look for particular data presented probably on a graph or a chart. When you skim, you do not read the whole text word for word. Skimming is done by reading a page or pages and paying attention to word cues such as the title, heading, or even the first sentence of a paragraph. For instance, if your teacher assigned you to get the main idea of a magazine article, then you purposely read its title first to get a bird's eye view of what it is all about. If the article is a bit long, you proceed to reading the first sentence of each paragraph just to get a preview of its content. Both scanning and skimming are reading techniques that also improve your ability to read quickly. In other words, speed reading. Isn’t it that there are times when you look for something particularly on your Facebook page, you scroll up and down on a somewhat speedy manner? You are doing a quick scan. On the other hand, if you’re a fan of reading stories in Wattpad, you rapidly read a sequence of story titles written on cover pages and whatever catches your interest is the story you would most likely read. You are doing a quick skim.
