Minerals have been extracted from the earth since prehistoric times and the history of civilization and industrial advancement has been linked with man’s ability to harness and use the minerals available. Fossil fuels provide almost 90% of the world’s energy supply. Coal, oil, and natural gas are types of fossil fuels formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. They are classified as non-renewable resources, meaning there is a finite source and a possible run-out of supply might happen if we do not consume them wisely.
