In our daily communication with people around us, there are things that we emphasize or focus on. For instance when you say:

“Somebody left a gift on my table.” In this sentence, your focus is the doer of the action which is “somebody”. On the other hand, when you say: “A gift was left on my table by somebody,” your focus is on the “gift” which is the object of the verb “left”. These are referred to as the voice of verbs.
